How can EMLA Cream be used and applied for both children and adults?

Before any medical procedures, EMLA Cream can also be used as a topical anesthetic to numb the skin. It is mainly used before minor surgeries or needle injections. While the cream will help you to numb the skin, you will still be able to feel any pressure or touch. EMLA consists of Lidocaine and Prilocaine.

Please be sure to consult with your doctor if
you want to use EMLA cream, as there can be various side effects or skin reactions. Advise your doctor of any medications that you are currently taken, as EMLA can affect the medicines’ effectiveness and can make EMLA less effective. When applying EMLA cream to freshly shaved skin, be sure to follow the recommend dosage as your skin will be absorbing it quicker.  Consult, the provided leaflet for the recommended dosage, as that varies depending on what the cream would be used for.

If using EMLA cream for the genital area, it should be applied by a doctor or nurse and not recommended for children under 12 years old.
